Chemical Composition and Gas Production Substrates of Maize Cobs Treated with Combinations of Urea and Wood Ash

Effect of treating maize cobs with a combination urea and wood ash (WA) on chemical composition in vitro gas production truly degraded substrate (TDS) were examined. The treatments were:1) 100U = (100% 0% ash), 2) 75U25WA (75% 25% 3) 50U50WA (50% 50% 4) 25U75WA (25 % 75% ash) 5) 0U0WA (Untreated cobs). concentrations reconstituted as follows: 5 kg dissolved 100 liters water /200 cobs; 3.75 mixed 7.5 WA water/200 2.5 15 1.25kg 22.5 Untreated 200 water. Chemical samples analyzed to determine dry matter (DM), organic (OM), ash, crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid (ADF) lignin (ADL). then incubated for 6, 12, 24, 48 72 hrs their DM degradation kinetics determined. It was observed that contents declined is substituted while the increased. Treatment had highest reduction both NDF ADF (660 360 g/kg) compared those (700 380g/kg) (840 430 g/kg). In contrast treatment 25U75 soluble (340 least (160 g/kg).Treatment (73.5ml per 0.5mg sample; P=0.0001) TDS (70.53%) least. also resulted microbial mass (MMP) (53.55 mg) (25.20 mg). efficiency (EMMP) partitioning factor (PF) (23.68 2.883) (12.00 2.500). concluded combinations beneficial synergic effect improved its nutritive value it alone.
